Twenty-plus years, one family, one region.
Shoestring was started in Tawa in 2003. It's still run by the same family, still measured by Alan, still installed by the same small crew.

Before Wellington, Alan spent years in the window-covering trade in South Africa — a market with brutal sun, big glazing, and no tolerance for cheap hardware. That's where the standards came from.
Since arriving in New Zealand and setting up in Tawa, the focus has been the same: real fabrics you can touch, honest measuring, and installers who actually turn up when they said they would.
We deliberately don't run a public showroom. It keeps our overheads low and our prices honest, and it means the samples come to your rooms, in your light — where the decisions are actually made.
Over the years we've picked up the Best of Houzz Customer Service award five years running (2017–2021), and passed 100 reviews across Google and Builderscrack. But the thing we're proudest of is repeat work — most of our jobs come from people we've already made blinds for, or their neighbours.
Come and see for yourself.
Book a consult — we'll bring the samples and take the measurements.
